F*** the Muck. Let’s GO.

12 weeks ago (in January ) I talked to you about Intentions—how you want to be and what you want to do in the world.

The three month mark, if not sooner, is often when intentions get thwarted, by things real and imagined.

So I think it’s a good time to pop into the Ru Paul School of Emotional Intelligence.

Ru Paul said “Feelings are indicators. They are not facts.

Feelings are our special intelligence—a signal that something needs paying attention to. They are NOT, however, objective truths. They are ours to use as a gauge.

When we hit bumps in the road we may feel discouraged, angry, frustrated, or any of a dozen uncomfortable emotions. The problem is not the problems we run into. The problem is when we  overreact to difficult emotions by attaching a lot of muck to them, like:

  • It’s hard so that means I need to stop

  • I need motivation/confidence to keep going and I’m not feeling it

  • I got rejected so I must not be good enough

  • I had a set back/failure so i’m not meant to do this

These are just made up stories. So rather than telling yourself them, experience the difficult emotion with an open heart and mind. If unhelpful stories creep in, notice and shift your energy to curiosity:

  • What’s the next best thing I can do in the face of this setback?

  • How will I respond in a way that honors my original intention?

Then…

Love, Patty
PS. And by “let’s” I mean if going it alone feels lonely, give me a ringy dingy.
